Construction completed in November 2021, SGF’s plant is operational running woody biomass feedstock with a nominal production capacity of 30 barrels per day (BPD). Steeper’s current Hydrofaction® Standard Modular Plant Design (SMPD) incorporates independent parallel lines ranging from 200–800 BPD (a range that is defined by the number of parallel lines chosen in the design) all to achieve the nominal 2,000 BPD average production capacity. The Tofte Demo Plant is a single-line version of a full-scale Steeper Plant and is intended to demonstrate operations and mitigate the technical risks associated with moving to the next stage of full-scale plant design and operations. Steeper clients and project owners will be able to choose and apply any multiple parallel lines in a facility to achieve production levels in excess of 2,000 BPD if required and based on economic availability of feedstocks.
SGF is a subsidiary of Statkraft, a Norway-based company leading in hydropower internationally and Europe’s largest generator of renewable energy. SGF selected Steeper’s Hydrofaction® after evaluating all known competing technologies (over 40) to be the platform for this important industry-leading initiative. The SGF Demo Plant is accessible by Steeper as a sister operation to the Pilot Plant, to prove viability of feedstocks, test process optimizations with the goal of advancing Steeper’s technology portfolio to optimize solutions for future clients.
Construction Completed in October 2021, SGF’s plant is operational running woody biomass feedstock with a nominal production capacity of 30 barrels per day. Steeper’s current Hydrofaction® Standard Modular Plant Design (SMPD) incorporates parallel 200 bpd processing lines, so an example commercial plant, say with 10 lines, would have a nominal 2,000 bpd capacity. The Tofte demo plant is a single-line configuration and from an applied science and engineering complexity perspective, materially approximates a full-scale Steeper Plant, confirming the viability of Steeper’s full commercial-scale plant designs. Steeper clients and project owners will be able to choose and apply any multiple of parallel lines in a facility to achieve production levels far in excess of 2,000 bpd if required.
SGF is a partnership between Statkraft, a Norway-based company leading in hydropower internationally and Europe’s largest generator of renewable energy, and Sweden’s Södra, a cooperative of 50,000 forest owners with extensive forestry operations and a leading producer of paper pulp, sawn timber and bioenergy. SGF selected Steeper’s Hydrofaction® against over 40 competing technologies to be the platform for this important industry-leading initiative.
